I’ve always had an interest in space and astronomy, there is something I find quite interesting in seeing and understanding something that is bigger and older than us all. I recently finished a Post Grad certificate in astronomy for the purpose of just extending my own knowledge. So this weekend it was a long weekend in Melbourne, what better excuse to get out of the city and go camping.
We headed to 90-mile beach, east in the Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park. There is very little light pollution due to to the distance from the city, in addition to noise and air pollution. I thought this would be a prime opportunity to try my hand at taking some photos of the stars at night.
These were my first tries, no post-processing. I took them on a little Mirrorless Nikon V3 and the 10mm f/2.8 Nikkor lens.
I’m going to take another shot tonight, with a shorter shutter speed to minimise the star trails. I’ll need to boost the ISO which will increase noise but I believe it will be worth it.
Here are some of the shots!
Brilliant!
